Menu Configuration

The layout and functioning of the menu can be changed and presented in the way required by the user. The actions triggered by the click of the menu can be customised as well. For changing the style of menu,

Click go to Settings > Technical > User Interface > Menu ItemsMenu

Here search for existing menu word that you want to find.

For eg: for changing export translation in the menu,

Navigate through: Settings/Translations/Import / Export/Export Translation and click Export Translation. This would open the form corresponding to it.

Change Parent Menu for this form.

This would move the particular entry to some other part of the menu system.

Change the Menu name, according to how you would want it to appear on the menu tree. Otherwise, simply give it a new Icon. You could also choose a completely new Action .

The better way to get this done is to duplicate the form instead of editing this original version. Duplicate form can be created by clicking on the Duplicate button in “More”. Also, keep in mind to change the option from editable to non editable, to be able to find more button.

You can move this duplicated entry by changing the Parent Menu field. This could be done by deleting the existing menu and replacing it with a new one visible for everyone, like Tools. Make sure that the entry moves to the end of the menu list by replacing the Sequence with 99 . There are icons that you can try. After this the form needs to be saved and then the page needs to be reloaded in order to view the results.

It is a good idea to duplicate a menu first and then modify it. This way you always have the original menu available to you just in case you make your mind to use it instead.

Assigning Default Values to Fields

nERP Customization as a whole is sure to be a heck load of work and an exhausting task but it is quite simple to configure the system to put default values in the various fields for new forms. This means you can pre- fill the fields with some default data in order to simplify users work while entering data.

In order to make these steps more understandable and easier for you, we would create a new customer with country set as United States.

Follow the steps, to create customer.

Check developer mode and select set defaults in that. This way you are the administrator and can make any changes for you or for the other users of the system.

Insert a new default value. (Here United States)

Open a new partner form: the field Country would now contain United States.

Creating defaults is very much useful if a value is used repeatedly, this would cutback users works and help in redefining the entire system as a whole.

Changing the Terminology

nERP provides us with the option of changing the entire terminology or some part of it. The translation functionality in nERP is used to substitute the standard terminology with the terminology you want. You would certainly want the terminology that is specific to the industry your business is a part of rather than adopting some general or way off terminology. It is a very asked for and sought out feature of nERP, as this feature enables the users to use industry specific terms easily without it interfering with the system. This is where customization plays the most important role as it makes sure that the system gets adapted around your business and not the other way round.

Terminology can be changed and substituted in any one of the following ways:

  • It can be translated and compiled together in a csv file providing you with a global overview of the entire system and the terminology used along with various properties and functions. This would enable you to update particular occurrences by searching and replacing them with new ones.
  • In a completely different way you can otherwise directly translate the phrases in the client. That implies changing them in their context which could be helpful t you while translating.

This approach is generally used to for translation of terms that have yet not been created. This can be useful, for example, with modules that have not yet been translated into English or any other language that you want.

Partial Translations

You can load a selection of the lines in a translation file by deleting most of the lines in the file and then loading back only the changed ones. nERP then changes only the uploaded lines and leaves the original ones in the original form.

Using a CSV File for translation

For translation and modification of all system phrases, you would be required to export a translation file in CSV form.

For that, install a language into nERP first.

To load a translation, go to Settings > Translations > Load an Translation.

Choose the language you want and click on load..

You will have to export this file by clicking on Settings > Translations > Import/Export > Export Translation.

In Export Translation, Select language you chose earlier, then the CSV File format, then one or more (or all) modules.

Click Export to start the export process, then click Save As to save the file.

The CSV file obtained would be encoded in the UTF-8 format. You would have to retain this format while opening the file, if not done so, you might end up getting some undefined very different character strings instead of accented characters.

The CSV file has six columns namely: module, type, name, res_id, src, and value. Dont alter the first row defining this columns.

The src field contains the base text in English, and the value field contains a translation into another conventional language or into a specialist technical phrase. English translaion is automatically used if the value field is empty.

Where Should the Text be altered?

Generally the text to be modified is accessible in the first few lines of csv itself. Which line should you modify? Refer to the two columns type (in column B) and name (in column C). Some lines have the name in the name column, which shows that this is a menu entry. Others have selection in the type column, which indicates that you would see this entry in a drop-down menu.

After this, load the new file in the nERP system.

This could be done as follows:

Settings > Translations > Import/Export > Import Translation.

There are two ways to take this forward:

  • Overwrite the previous translation by using the same name as before.
  • Create a new translation file which users can select in their Preferences.

If you are not connected to the translated language, click Preferences, select the language in Language from the Preferences tab, and finally click Save to load the new language with its new terminology.
